Behind the Design
The flag features six colors in total to represent the six municipal boroughs on our island: Barnegat Light, Harvey Cedars, Surf City, Ship Bottom, Long Beach Township, and Beach Haven. On the left edge of the flag, known as the hoist, you will notice a familiar color combo from the north end of the island; Old Barney. The sun design has eighteen rays to represent our eighteen miles of sandy coastline. If you look closely, you may see that the rays spell out LBI. The three inner rings of the sun give a nod to the island, the bridge, and the mainland. Lastly the three triangles depict the colors of the natural landscape – shallower turquoise waters followed by a deep rich navy and clear blue skies above. I hope you enjoy the simple yet meaningful design behind the flag.
